Yakima, WA — Mid Columbia Forklift announces with deep sadness the passing of its founder, Duane Bolinger, who died peacefully on December 9, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Duane founded Mid Columbia Forklift in August 1978 under the name Mid Columbia Clarklift. What began as a small operation serving Central and Southeastern Washington and Northeastern Oregon grew into a respected, multi-location material handling company under his leadership. In the company’s earliest years, MidCo faced intense competition and uncertainty. Duane’s determination, work ethic, and willingness to make bold, thoughtful decisions helped the business survive and eventually thrive.

One of Duane’s earliest and most impactful decisions was to invest heavily in short-term rental fleets to meet seasonal demand. That strategy not only sustained the company during its formative years, but also helped establish long-term customer relationships that fueled future growth.
Founded in Yakima, the company eventually expanded to Pasco, Wenatchee, and Auburn to better serve the region.
Duane was known for his strong values. He believed in valuing customers, respecting employees, and keeping one’s word. Those principles became the foundation of MidCo’s culture and continue to guide the company today.
In 1994, Duane made another pivotal decision to expand beyond a single forklift line, forming strategic partnerships with Toyota and Daewoo (now Bobcat), in addition to Clark, MidCo’s founding partner. These relationships played a significant role in the company’s long-term growth and positioned MidCo as a leading dealer in the region.
Duane worked tirelessly to build the company with the steadfast support of his wife, Janet, and their family. He leaves behind not only a strong and respected business, but also a legacy of integrity, perseverance, and leadership.
Mid Columbia Forklift remains committed to carrying forward Duane Bolinger’s vision and values as the company continues to serve its customers, partners, and communities.
A celebration of life will be held at The Wenatchee Golf Course, February 22nd.
